Sweet Sweetbacks Baadasssss Song

"Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song" was a sensation when it first appeared in 1971, breaking free of any constraints made by Hollywood's filmmakers and heralding the whoe era of "blaxploitation" cinema. It tells the story of Sweetback, one of the world's greatest lovers, so-named because of what he makes women cry. Sweetback is forced on the run after being unfairly incriminated by an inept and corrupt police force. It became one of the all-time top ten grossing independent movies. This is the full screenplay of "Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song". It contains the shooting script and a journal, giving the story behind the uphill and at times hysterical struggle to make it. It also includes the soundtrack of the film on an audio CD-ROM. The band Earth, Wind and Fire recorded the whole of the soundtrack for the movie. This was before they had become successful, and partly why they became so successful. The album was a massive hit outside of the cinemas, and reveals one of Melvin Van Peeble..
