"Sweet Sweetback's Baadassss Song" was a sensation when it first appeared in 1971, breaking free of any constraints made by Hollywood's filmmakers and heralding the whoe era of "blaxploitation" cinema. Sweetback is forced on the run after being unfairly incriminated by an inept and corrupt police force. It became one of the all-time top ten grossing independent movies.
